Lorain High School reopened in the fall of 2010. The original Lorain High School was located on Washington Avenue and 6th Street and was demolished in the summer of 2010. The current school is a product of the Lorain merger of Lorain Admiral King High School and Lorain Southview High School. The mascot is the Unicorn.
The largest high school in the Lorain City School District, Admiral King High School opened in 1961. Admiral King High School was named for Lorain native Fleet Admiral Ernest J. King a former Chief of Naval Operations and Commander-in-Chief of the United States Fleet. The school's colors are navy blue and gold. The mascot is the ram, and the sports teams are known as the Admirals. The school is a member of the Lake Erie League. The tunes to the school's alma mater and fight song are "Eternal Father, Strong to Save" and "Anchors Aweigh", respectively. The school board has decided to keep Admiral King open and merge Southview. Even though the Admirals were saved from closing, it too will lose its name, school colors, fight song, alma mater and traditions. The Admirals, along with the Saints will be picking a new school name, colors, fight song, etc. Admiral King will temporarily house the high school students under a new name, that will carry over to the new high school when it is built. When the new high school is complete, LAKHS will be closed too.
At a March 17, 2010 school board meeting, the new high school's name was announced as Lorain High School.[3] On March 31, 2010, the Lorain City School District Board announced the new school colors and nickname for the high school.[2]
===Lorain Southview High School==== 1969-2010. Lorain Southview High was completed in 1969. Its school colors are red, white and originally baby blue (which was later changed to navy). The sports teams are known as the Saints. The mascot is a young boy dressed as an angel with a black eye and a patch on his elbow. The school is a member of the Lake Erie League. The school's fight song is "When the Saints Go Marching In." Southview's Model UN, Army Jrotc, Wrestling team, and Marching band have been given many honors. During the short lived small school years, the small schools were called : Leadership, Pride and Arts. The school board has decided to close Lorain Southview High School at the end of the 2009-2010 school year and merge the Saints with the Admirals from Lorain Admiral King High School. The move to Admiral King is temporary. When the new high school is built, Admiral King will close and Lorain City School District will have one high school with a new name and the beginning of new traditions.
